Why is Lemongrass Thai restaurant has been voted as one of the best Thai restaurant in Melbourne?

Check out the video from the previous FoodSocial Global Feast: T for Thailand in collaboration with Lemongrass Thai restaurant and find out for yourself!

Lemongrass Thai restaurant has a long history spanning over twenty years in Carlton. It is opened by Michael with inspiration from his grandmother who has worked with the Thai royal. All the dishes here are prepared from scratch and from original recipes passed down.

The event started with a welcoming sparkling as guests meet and greet each other. Michael, the owner of Lemongrass, gave us an introduction of the origin of Lemongrass. He explained that Thai food is essentially a combination of sweet and sour.

Lemongrass is the first restaurant that introduced the traditional betel leaf platter. It is was quite a cultural experience eating the betel leaf platter. You pick from a variety of ingredients from fresh garlic, ginger, lime, pomelo , peanuts, toasted coconut, dried shrimp, longan wrapped in betel leaves and accompanied with a savoury-sweet sauce. It's an explosion of flavours as you eat the combination of ingredients in one mouthful and the sauce was a great complement to the dish. You'll wish for more, trust on this!

You can tell how good the food is when everyone on the table became silent as they begin to enjoy the food. The fried fish in tamarind hot-sour sauce was such a delight with the right balance of sweet and sour flavour. The green curry is creamy and fresh with spices. The fish patties is a stand out as you can taste the freshness and the dipping sauce is so good!

The banquet ends with a warm dessert of sago with taro and longan in creamy coconut milk. The dessert is delicious with different texture of soft sago and crunchy taro. The longan added sweetness to the creamy dessert. What a great a way to end the night! The guests had fun playing trivia of Thai cuisine and the winning team won a voucher worth of $40 each for the their next visit to the restaurant (don't think it won't be long they'll be back for more!)

It is no surprise that Lemongrass has won the Best Thai Restaurant in the Victoria
Restaurant & Catering Savour Australia Awards and seven-year winners of Best Thai in The Age Good Food Guide.

Thinking of Thai? With a great ambience, friendly staff and delicious authentic food, you'll have a taste of Thai right in Carlton!
